PORTERVILLE NEWS | ORIGINAL LOCAL NEWS · OCTOBER 2026
The City of Porterville filed a June 5, 2026 environmental notice for improvements around the existing pond at Murry Park. The project aims to make one of the park’s central features easier and safer to reach on foot.
What the official documents say
The city’s plan describes a five-foot-wide concrete path around the pond, solar lighting spaced roughly 50 feet apart, six benches and five ADA-accessible picnic tables. The pond lies inside a 16.8-acre park at 500 East Putnam Avenue. These features would improve access and provide places for visitors to sit and gather.
Why residents should follow it
Public parks matter for people who want recreation without long travel distances. The proposed lighting and accessible routes could benefit families, older residents and people with mobility limitations. The environmental notice describes minor alterations to existing park facilities; it does not establish that all lighting or seating is installed or that a new path is already open.
Next steps for the community
Porterville News will follow project bids, installation dates, accessibility inspections and any temporary restrictions at the pond. Visitors should consult the city’s parks department for current work activity and hours.
